Top 10 albums of 2014

Years come and go. Some and great, some are greater and some are even greater; and 2014 hasn’t been at all bad (in terms of music releases), so I decided to sum up all the album reviews I’ve been procrastinating in a whole review, ranking them from 1 (being the best) to 10. I’m sure you’ll miss some albums here and there since I have sadly not listened to as many new albums as I would have liked to, so feel free to leave your own “top 10” list of albums on the comments down below!

I Never Learn – Lykke Li (album review)

Last May 2nd, Lykke Li came back with “I Never Learn”, the “closing record” of a trilogy started years ago with her debut album, Youth Novels. Through the whole trilogy, Lykke Li has evolved, improved and proven herself as one of the best artists not only on the current music scenario but as one of…

Do It Again – Robyn & Röyksopp (album review)

After collaborating together several times before, on each other’s albums, Robyn & Röyksopp decided to go one step further. The “mini-album” (called so despite its thirty-five minutes length) with a ten-minute track called “Monument”. “Do It Again” reportedly serves as an introduction to Röyksopp’s upcoming album, which is set to be released later in 2014 and will…

Sheezus – Lily Allen (album review)

After four years of music hiatus, Lily is back. And she hasn’t lost her touch. In fact, she’s better than ever! The title-track serves as opener of “Sheezus”, “namechecking” pop divas, from Beyoncé to Lady Gaga. You may wonder, what’s the point of doing so? The song speaks about how the actual music scene feels like a constant battle.…

Robyn – Artist shoutout

“Robyn is here” was this lady’s first album, released in 1997. Starting her career at the age of sixteen, Robyn’s got a lot of experience since then. Three albums after that, the “Body Talk” project came out. Robyn decided to release a trilogy of  EPs in one year, compiling some of their songs then in…

Foxes – Artist shoutout

Right after listening Zedd’s “Clarity” for the first time, I wondered who that girl was. “Foxes“. Her voice was deep, clear and overwhelming. I needed to know. So I did my research. “Foxes”, named Louisa Rose Allen, is an English woman who came up with her stage name after her mother told her about a…

13 songs of 2013

As every year approaches its end, people start making lists. “Best songs of 2013”, “Top 10 movies of 2013”, “Greatest albums of the year”… And I’ve decided to join that team. At this point of last year, everyone was making guesses about how would it be. Some said “13” would bring no good. Some said…

ARTPOP – Lady Gaga (track by track album review)

Few weeks after Born This Way was released, Gaga started the making of a brand new album called “ARTPOP“. The project, much brighter than her previous record, was described by Gaga as “a celebration and a poetic musical journey” that displayed a “lack of maturity and responsibility”, exactly the opposite of darker previous work “Born This…

Pax·Am Days – Fall Out Boy (EP review)

Last October 15th, Fall Out Boy released their music compilation of a “few nights of jokes and experimentation” at Ryan Adams‘ studio in Sunset Blvd. The EP is comprises eight songs that will remind some to their old work, and to others like me it’ll sound like nothing they’ve done before. Most of the songs are…
